Morgan Rd Mustangs vs Glenn Hills Spartans (boys) Dec. 7, 2009
The boy’s matchup featured two teams that were both undefeated coming into the matchup at 4-0. Glenn Hills got off to a fast start, lead by #23 Michael “Meat” Scott (Glenn Hills) who put in five first quarter points, giving his team a 15-6 first quarter lead. Morgan Rd started to make a run early in the second quarter with four quick buckets by #24 Kahlige “Da-Da” Fleglare. With the offensive fire power that Glenn Hills has, at any given time any one of coach Mitchell’s player can get hot. That was the case in the second quarter. #12 Niquia “bubba” Andrews picked up where #23 “Meat” Scott left off, scoring five second quarter points. Glenn Hills continued to keep the widespread lead throughout the game due to the inside presence of #24 Caleel Stephens (Glenn Hills) and Maurice O’Bannon (Glenn Hills) who also added two 3rd quarter blocks. Morgan Rd couldn’t get into an offensive rhythm in the second half. As a result, Glenn Hills took a 20 point lead and didn’t look back. Morgan Rd got a spark from #3 Earl Cobb early in the fourth but couldn’t chop away at the lead.
Final Score Glenn Hills 45 Morgan Rd 26.
#24 Caleel Stephens led Glenn Hills with 10 points and 8 rebounds. #23 Michael “Meat” Scott (6 assist) and #12 Niquia “bubba” Andrews added 9 points each. #24 Kahlige “Da-Da” Fleglare lead Morgan Rd with 14 points. #3 Earl Cobb added 7 points.

Morgan Rd Mustangs vs Glenn Hills Spartans (girls) Dec. 7, 2009
Tonight’s matchup featured the defending champions, Lady Spartans vs the young Morgan Rd Mustangs. Glenn Hills showed their dominance from jump-street. Glenn Hills applied pressure the whole game and Morgan Rd just couldn’t seem to get into any kind of offensive sink handling the pressure. As a result, Glenn Hills pulled away with a 30 to 0 lead starting the fourth quarter. Morgan did finally get on the score board with 2 minutes left in the game. The mustangs continued to play hard on the defensive end but just converted too many turnovers throughout the game. The leading scorer for Glenn Hills was #23 Alexis Grant with 10 points, she also has one of the nicest jumpshot strokes in the city. #21 Brianna Johnson (Glenn Hills) added 6 points. Murphey Mavericks vs Spirit Creek Dolphins (girls) Dec. 10, 2009
The matchup between the Murphey Mavericks and Spirit Creek Dolphins featured some star-studded talent. Murphey has the “twin-towers” of #20 Marion Ware and #31 Jamiah Bradley (both standing over six feet) and Spirit Creek has the highly touted/ smooth and poised guard #23 Keela Patrick who's just in the seventh grade. Expect these girls and many more to be at our 1st annual Girls Middle School Elite Showcase, Feb. 6th and 7th…The game was very exciting from the jump ball. #20 Marion Ware (Murphey) and #31 Jamiah Bradley (Murphey) showcased their dominance on the boards and the paint in the first half. Combining for 16 points and 12 rebounds. #23 Keela Patrick (Spirit Creek) couldn’t get into her offensive scoring mood in the first half, but she was able to gather two steals and get her teammates involved with four assist. Murphey’s offensive tempo and inside presence lead them with a 24 to 15 first half lead. The third quarter belonged to #15 Deandra Jordan (Spirit Creek) who scored 10 of her 15 points in the third. Deandra showed how fearless she is on the offensive side of the ball by going to the basket strong and shooting her mid-range jumpshot whenever she liked. Her play brought Spirit Creek back within two points heading into the fourth quarter, 33-31. Both teams were going back and forth with steals, block shots and numerous amounts of hustle plays. As the fourth quarter went on, the play of #20 Marion Ware (Murphey) just started to wear down the lady Dolphins. She dominated on the offensive glass, that lead to put backs and her defensive rebounding lead to outlet passes for easy layups for her teammates. #23 Keela Patrick (Spirit Creek) tried to keep her team in the game, with the 3pt shot but she couldn’t capitalize on a couple of opportunities.
Final Score: Murphey 48 Spirit Creek 39.
#20 Marion Ware (Murphey) led her team with 20 points and 12 rebounds. #31 Jamiah Bradley (Murphey) finished with 15 points and 7 rebounds. #15 Deandra Jordan led Spirit Creek with 15 points and #23 Keela Patrick had 10 points 7 assists and 4 steals.
Murphey Mavericks vs Spirit Creek Dolphins (boys) Dec. 10, 2009
The boy’s matchup was exciting and close as well. Spirit Creek was able to handle the aggressive defensive pressure early in the game, in where the Dolphins got some easy layups. Spirit Creek controlled the tempo through the first half of play, slowing the game down and allowing #33 Vincent Norris (Spirit Creek) to work his low-post game. Vincent displayed some nice back to the basket moves and some good kick-outs to his perimeter players for jumpshots. The Dolphins lead the whole game going into the 3rd quarter with a 27 to 24 lead. Murphey started to pick up the play in the fourth quarter. Murphey, who is lead by high profile small forward #22 Danny "DJ" Demmons (Murphey) started to take over the game with dribble drives that lead to layups and fouls against Spirit Creek. Murphey finally took the lead at the 2 minute mark when #22 Danny "DJ" Demmons stole the ball and took it coast-to-coast for the And-1 and the very next play, #3 Kenny Joseph (Murphey) knocked down a corner 3pt shot to make the game 33-29, Murphey leading. Spirit came down and #11 J. Walker (Spirit Creek) made an acrobatic layup to pull Spirit Creek within two points with 50 seconds left. Spirit Creek turned the pressure up and as a result; #12 Josh Toliver (Spirit Creek) intercepted a pass but couldn’t convert on the layup. #22 Danny "DJ" controlled the last 30 seconds of the game with his ball handling avoiding the defense and eventually sealing the game with two made free-throws with 10 seconds left.
Final score: Murphey 35 Spirit Creek 31
#22 Danny Demmons led Murphey with 14 points and 2 blocks. #2 Kevonte added 7 points. #33 Vincent Norris led Spirit Creek with 8 points and 12 rebounds. #11 J. Walker added 6 pts for Spirit Creek.
