Tommy, with 7 second quarter points and a great defensive effort from East Augusta, tied the score at 21 at halftime. Both teams slowed the pace down in the 3rd quarter. Glenn Hills Spartans vs Langford Lions (boys) 12/3/2009
Glenn Hills and Langford are both coming off wins on their first official games. Tonight’s matchup previews a possible championship battle based on the caliber of players that both teams possess. Glenn Hills was without “high flying” wing guard #13 Aaron Williamson (Glenn Hills) due to injury but with the deep team that Glenn Hills has, someone was going to step up the scoring load and that player was #15 Santo Nina (Glenn Hills) Glenn Hills got off to a early lead in the first half led by 15 first half points by #15 Santo. Santo showed us once again why he is regarded as one of the top scorers in the CSRA. Scoring on pull-up jumpers, layups and deep three pointers. Langford tried to make a run in the first half. #33 Mark Walden (Langford) scored 8 first half points but the Lions just couldn’t seem to get into sink on the offensive end. Part of that was due to the inside play of 6’1” seventh grader PF/C Maurice O’Bannon (Glenn Hills) who had 4 first half blocks and 5 rebounds. The third quarter belonged to the highly rated PG #23 Michael “Meat” Scott. “Meat” scored 8 of his 14 points in the third quarter with dribble drives and finishing strong at the basket. He also displayed his defensive skills with 3 steals. Meat's overall performance and the team's great defensive effort led the Spartans with a 41-19 lead going into the fourth quarter. Langford continued to play hard and started to put on a run late in the fourth. #25 Frank Roberts (Langford) scored 5 fourth quarter points chipping away at the lead. The comeback was just a little too late with lead being 20 plus.
Final Score: Glenn Hills 46 Langford 35.
